Question for philosophy / rhetoric peeps...
Apr. 29th, 2009 | 07:11 pm
What's it called when someone takes an argument into ludicrous-land?
For example: "If gay folks are allowed to marry, then what's next? People marrying their siblings or Gi Joe action figures.."
Is it a fallacy? There's a phrase for this type of taking a point into sensationalism land and I can't recall what it's called...

Hot Water Heater Death
Feb. 25th, 2009 | 06:58 am
mood:
groggy
The hot water heater leaked all day long yesterday (while we were at work).
Half an inch of warm water in the kitchen when we got home.
Apartment smells like a locker room.
Plumber arrived at 6pm, stayed until 8:30pm. His name is Tom and he is a saint.
New water heater today...cold shower this morning...it's like camping in Siberia in the winter.
Did I mention the smell? :(

recruiting
Sep. 16th, 2008 | 08:59 pm
the recruitment call is out for the gym buddies.
Phil may end up be my new badminton buddy. I'm sure he's better than Faris ;-)
Tab sounds like he might be interested in the gymming as well...
Latest gymming recruit may not work out due to the fact that they really don't want to know me. As I said to Faris, it's quite vexing.
Any other interested parties?
The ultimate gym buddy in terms of all gym buddy metrics has and seemingly will always be one Cat McGraw, MS. :D

Thinking about the tattoo or the piercing again...
Jul. 8th, 2008 | 09:54 pm
mood:
bouncy
Tattoo thoughts: right arm, forearm, underside, something circular (but no bombs with ailerons), a symbol perhaps (but sans appropriation cough mcgraw cough ;-), black ink. Concentric circles? A circle filled in?
Piercing thoughts: nose or eyebrow. Although, with the cold this past week, lots of nose blowing, not conducive to the blowing...
I am surrounded by the anti-tattoo and anti-piercing brigade at work. Is it messed up to get a body mod as a way to visually say, look you're wrong, you're just wrong. Disband the fucking brigade!
In other news (quite possibly related), Mom and Daughter from richville, CA visit today. Corvallis "has a lot of people in it with tattoos and piercings." [said with a tone that does not convey positivity.] Lots of comments ensue about how they have "never seen that kind of stuff before." I said that I had never seen them before. I am so bad.
They conveyed this sense of relief that "most of the campus was not like that though." I wanted to have a tattoo on my right forearm at that exact moment and then say, oh yes I advise HDFS, that's your new major.
Daughter: "There was this girl who had her HEAD SHAVED!!!"
Me: "It's summer. She needed ventilation."
And yes, I'm seeking input, hisses, etc. Discuss. Love, E
